Clothing Instruction
After gaining teaching qualifications and teaching ceramics for ten years I studied clothing manufacture and have operated a workroom making bespoke clothing for over twenty years.
The skills I have honed while making a multitude of unique garments for private clients I now pass on to my students.
I conduct small classes in the Melbourne CBD in conjunction with Tessuti Fabrics, weekend workshops in a tranquil country location and also offer individual tutoring, either in person or via video conferencing.
Classes and workshops are kept to small numbers to enable students to quickly gain confidence and develop sound skills. All classes accommodate any skill level from beginner to advanced and are structured around specific skills or student directed projects.
It is immensely satisfying for students when they are able to make garments that fit their body shape exactly and with increasing skill and confidence it becomes possible to choose high quality fabrics that will last for many years. Instead of purchasing garments with built in obsolescence, I teach students methods of construction that enable garments to be altered over time.
Melbourne CBD Workroom
weekend workshop /
4 Hr class
$900 AUD / $240 AUD
These classes and workshops accommodate any sewing skill level and are structured around the projects determined by the students.
Any aspect of garment construction and pattern-making can be the focus of projects in these classes.
Workshops run from Friday to Sunday afternoons and costs include two nights accommodation at a tranquil retreat with modern facilities in Daylesford and all meals for the workshop duration.
Classes are held in my private workroom in Macedon a short walk from the train station.

WEEKEND WORKSHOP
$720 AUD
Especially useful for an experienced student, this class series takes you through the process of taking accurate body measurements and pattern drafting to achieve a closely fitted dress block that consists of a bodice, sleeve and skirt.
Skills learned can be used to aid in pattern making and making custom adjustments to commercial patterns with the excellent fit provided by the block.
Workshops run from Friday to Sunday afternoons and costs include two nights accommodation at a tranquil retreat with modern facilities in Daylesford and all meals for the workshop duration.

4 hr class
$120 AUD
This class uses a commercial pattern as a starting point and is ideal for students, of all skill levels, creating their own garments.
A calico is fitted and adjustments are made to the pattern pieces.
Using the commercial pattern instructions with the modified pattern pieces students learn to produce a garment that is well fitted.
The classes are held in my private workroom in Macedon a short walk from the train station.

1/2 - 2 HR APPOINTMENTs
$30 - $120 AUD
Appointments for personal tutoring are always available in video conferencing format and at certain times are available in person in my workroom.*

IN PERSON 1 Hour / 2 Hour Appointments
Sometimes it is simply for the convenience of choosing a more suitable time slot or class length.
Quite often students who have undertaken a number of classes and are working on advanced projects need small amounts of very specific guidance or instruction.
ONLINE 1/2 Hour / 1 Hour / 1 1/2 Hour Appointments
These sessions are helpful when social distancing is necessary and in-person classes are not possible.
I am able to assist with planning projects and solving specific problems using verbal advice and instruction along with exchanging diagrams, observing finishes and checking the fit of garments by video link*.
