I work across two mediums making porcelain tableware and bespoke clothing. In both cloth and clay the longevity of the product is paramount and it is my hope that the pieces can be kept and used for many years.

CERAMICS

While the natural world provides perennial inspiration for my ceramic forms, the consideration of utility is omnipresent in the design of each piece of tableware. While not directly transposing the forms and surfaces that I admire, I engage with a process of distillation and amplification of a variety of elements that eventually underpin each design.

Alongside the primarily visual aspects of vessel making, the utility of each piece is carefully considered. Each plate and saucer has a rim that is far enough from the table to allow ease of lifting with one hand. The comfort and balance of each handle is considered in relation to the weight and shape of the pot it supports. Pouring vessels have spouts and rims that direct fluid smoothly and obediently forward.

Currently I am working collaboratively with Emma Jimson and Annie Smithers towards the TABLED exhibition. The exhibition is an initiative of The Australian Ceramics Association and will open at Manly Art Gallery on April 26th, 2024. The work for this exhibition will engage all of my ceramic availability for the moment and I will not be producing my tableware range for some time.

Pieces from my studio are available to view in several art gallery collections and to purchase from a small selection of stockists..

CLOTHING

After teaching ceramics for ten years I studied clothing manufacture and have operated a workroom making bespoke clothing for over twenty years. The lockdowns in Melbourne resulted in the closure of my CBD workroom and I now have a smaller workroom in Southbank to meet with clients interested in ordering bespoke garments.
